Michael Quam
Michael Quam is a native of Waterloo, Iowa. His family has lived in Dubuque since 2009, although Michael himself has been in and out with the United States Army. Having served 24 years in the US Army as an Intelligence Officer, Michael has spent time advising top US and NATO officials on Cultural Intelligence both at the Pentagon and in Afghanistan. He currently works for Google, where he leads their Supply Chain Intelligence program and is a part of their Cultural Engagement team.
Michael's strong military leadership experience coupled with his background in teaching cultural education calls to him to contribute back to the community of Dubuque. He has led large diverse teams through the delivery of innovative solutions and has implemented strategic programs that have driven large global tech companies. This work has placed him in over 25 countries around the world for periods of time totalling more time than he has spent in the US over the last 10 years. Side note, Michael is a foodie and can tell you all about his favorite foods in Taiwan, Japan, Italy, India, and Malaysia!
Even though he has been traveling, he has been the lead instructor for several programs at the Dubuque Multi-Cultural Family Center throughout the years such as: Hung Gar Kung Fu, Capoeira, Tai Chi, and Lil Ninjas. He believes that everyone deserves a place where they feel safe, that their background/heritage is protected and they can share it, and where they can learn about themselves in unique and diverse ways.
