Future Talk Teen Empowerment Program

A Summer Employment, Environmental Education & Service Program for Teens

Thanks to everyone that has applied to the program!  The application deadline has passed.  

All applicants will be notified by May 5th if they have been accepted into the program.  Thanks for your interest!

Important dates/times:

  • If accepted into the program, a mandatory orientation with a parent/guardian will take place on Saturday, May 20 from 10 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.  Additionally, we will provide your family with a handbook outlining the program, expectations, locations, suggested clothing, etc.
  • The program runs Monday-Friday, June 12 through August 4.  
  • Attendance is also required on Sat., June 17th at the MFC’s Juneteenth Celebration from 11am-5pm at Comiskey Park. 
  • There is a one week break July 3-July 7. 
  • Teens are expected to attend every day from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on Fridays.  

Please note, we will be outdoors the majority of the time.  Some days will be very hot and humid and on some days, it may rain.   There will be bugs, animals, and perhaps even a snake or two encountered.  There may be poison ivy and poison oak at the worksite.

Members selected for the Future Talk team are expected to demonstrate good behavior AT ALL TIMES.  Teens that complete the expectations of the program will earn a daily stipend.  The total of the stipend may add up to $1,000.  Teens that do not demonstrate these basic expectations may lose their stipend and may even be asked to leave the program.

Some expectations of the program are to:

  • be respectful and kind to others
  • be on time every day, use time efficiently and participate actively in all activities
  • listen and respect the ideas of others
  • show and model respect for everyone and respect diversity in others (race, ethnicity, gender, etc.)
  • be teachable and follow instructions of your supervisor
  • have a good attitude and show enthusiasm, even when the work is hard and you are tired
  • be a team player
  • complete good quality work and
  • show respect for the natural environment.
