Dr. Mary Gitau

Dr. Mary Gitau has been Assistant Professor of Social Work at Clarke University since August 2014. Her educational preparation encompasses Education and Social Work and she teaches in the areas of social work practice with communities and organizations, social work research, diversity issues, and global social work.  Prior to joining Clarke, she studied and taught at the University of Wyoming.  In addition to teaching,  Mary has particular interest in advocating for educational access, mostly for disadvantaged children,  and empowering vulnerable populations. Born and raised in Kenya, she earned a master’s degree in Social Work and a Ph.D. in Education both from the University of Wyoming.   As a member of the Board of Directors for Multicultural Family Center, Mary’s passion is community engagement, multiculturalism, and diversity.
